Project Shop Local
Let’s shop small and support our local businesses!
Small businesses keep Manhattan beautiful and flourishing, therefore, I want to dedicate this project to all of the local entrepreneurs! How will this work? I will create a one-of-a-kind piece of art dedicated to a local business in Manhattan each month. Then below I will write a small bio describing each business’s mission and offerings. My goal for this project is to grow a community around supporting Manhattan entrepreneurs!
Want to nominate a small business? Send me an email or a direct message on my socials and I’ll check them out!

Flight Crew Coffee
423 Poyntz Ave, Manhattan, Ks
August 2024
Flight Crew Coffee was inspired by the founder’s years living abroad. Heather always found herself ending up in coffee shops and they soon became her home away from home. Flight Crew’s mission is
“To elevate the lives of all who walk through our door through uncommon kindness, extraordinary service, and nostalgic class.”
And let me tell y’all, they execute their mission flawlessly! As soon as you walk through their doors, you are met with smiling faces and homey vibes.
Along with yummy coffee and in-house baked pastries, Flight Crew Coffee also offers monthly events that feature live music, local artists, and nostalgic sock-hop dances!
About The Art:
This piece was made from the packaging that Flight Crew’s coffee syrups come in. It was a fiber-like material that felt similar to egg cartons. I shredded the packaging and let it soak for 24 hours in water to create the paper pulp. The pulp was then strained and pressed through a rectangular screen to create its shape. After 72 hours, the new paper was finally dry and able to be used. I then carved the globe and coffee mug design into a thick linoleum block. Et Viola, I was able to stamp the design onto the handmade paper and this artwork was completed!
